Oshun Oxtra

Studio 6

The name Oshun Oxtra (a misspelling of Ocean Orchestra) comes from the river boat in the Moomin series of tales by Tove Jansson. While husband and wife team Jez and Michele may not be sailing down the river, their artistic journey has brought them to St Ives where they are now established as part of the Sloop Studio community.

Originally graduating with an MA in ceramics from the Royal College of Art, Michele Chilton has gradually moved into painting and print-making. Michele sketches abstracted views with continuous line drawing, along with memories and photos, to build her compositions. Using layers of oil paint, mono printing and sgraffito, her work aims to create atmospheric, vibrant paintings. Her linocut prints explore a more stylised portrayal of her subject matter and perfectly compliment her paintings.

As a creative, I like to explore new techniques and media, to keep evolving my work.

Designer and illustrator Jez Webb creates playful illustrations inspired by his experiences and travels. Jez’ prints use fade resistant inks and highest quality paper, saturated with dense colour and fine detail.

Jez and Michele’s contrasting yet complimentary styles meld perfectly in their studio shop with a range of items for sale – from their prints and paintings to fabric lampshades, cameo glass vases, needlefelted creations and bone china mugs.
